London, United Kingdom, March 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- What is Fairtrade? Fairtrade is a tool for ensuring that farmers and producers of goods in developing countries get a fair price for the products they sell. The idea is that products will be sold displaying the Fairtrade logo. Customers purchasing Fairtrade products know they are contributing to the alleviation of poverty. It provides fair access to markets and better trade conditions for farmers and producers ensuring their continuing development.

There is a minimum price set for buyers to ensure a fair deal for the producers. This price is not fixed but instead acts as a starting point. The price the goods are bought for is set by the Fairtrade foundation and includes a margin which ensures the sustainable production of the products. The deal for the farmers also works if the market value of the goods increases. As the value of the goods a producer makes increases they become entitled under the fairtrade scheme to ask for an increase in price to reflect the new market value of their goods.
