Little Explorers Opens at Derby College Broomfield Hall

The new Little Explorers childcare and nursery facility has opened at Derby College's Broomfield Hall Campus. A press photo opportunity is scheduled for Thursday, March 10 at 10am.

Derby, United Kingdom, March 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Photo opportunity: Thursday March 10, 10am, Little Explorers Nursery, Broomfield Hall, Morley DE7 6DN.

Derby College's new £400,000 day nursery, after school and holiday club has opened at the Broomfield Hall campus in Morley.

Little Explorers is a new purpose-built 54 place nursery, catering for children aged three months to five years and then older children after school and during the holidays. It replaces the existing Little Learners nursery at the College's Mackworth site.

The College nursery, which is the first in Derbyshire to achieve Forest School status, is based on the outdoor nursery model, developed in Scandinavia, where most of the day is spent outside – exploring the natural environment.

Head of Broomfield Hall Louise Curd explained: "The concept for Little Explorers is to use the outdoors as a classroom so that they can enjoy their surroundings and gain a real appreciation of environmental issues as part of the pre-school curriculum.

"In addition, the children will be involved in the neighbouring Food Hub – learning how to grow food, and all the meals served will be sourced from local producers as part of our work to build on our silver status Eco-Schools status."
