New Partnership to Support Economic Development Globally

Singapore, Singapore, March 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The International Institute of International Software Economies, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IISEIE) is pleased to announce a new partnership with not-for-profit educator Startup Weekend as part of their digital communities initiative.

This collaboration will see IISEIE and Startup Weekend support economic development through the creation of new jobs and new companies through educational programs globally.

IISEIE, a global not-for-profit organization, supports the empowerment of local communities through the development of hi-tech economies in city economies. They work closely with local communities, government, industry and academia stakeholders to create job growth and innovation in these local ICT industries through the creation of Innovation Hubs.

The IISEIE Innovation Hubs are focused on providing programs that will create new entrepreneurs, companies and jobs within their local economies. Startup Weekend events are 54 hour workshops designed to do just that, by providing superior experiential education for software entrepreneurs. This start up event provides networking, resources and incentives for individuals and teams to rapidly move from idea to launch.

Maris McEdward, Startup Weekend Marketing and Communications Manager, believes their weekend format is successful because they center on action, innovation and education.

“Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekend culminates in Sunday night demos and presentations. Participants actual create working startups during the event which can really take the participants outside of their comfort zone,” she said.

Malcolm Fraser from the IISEIE Office of the CEO believes that education is the key to helping local software Start-Ups and entrepreneurs achieve success.

“Often software entrepreneurs have superior technical knowledge but often have a lack of understanding of what it needs to take their idea and turn it into a reality within the highly competitive ICT marketplace. Startup Weekends help develop their skills in other areas such as marketing and strategic planning as well as giving them access to mentors and the opportunity to build networks with like-minded individuals,” Malcolm said.
