DVNF Answers the Call from Operation Homefront

Emergency grant replenishes funds depleted by Missouri tornado response

Washington, DC, March 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- After a devastating tornado struck the Fort Leonard Wood Army base on December 31, 2010, Operation Homefront of Missouri provided support to the many families left in tatters by the storm. The effort exhausted the organization’s cash reserve. Operation Homefront put out an appeal for help to other nonprofits dedicated to supporting veterans and military families. Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) president Precilla Wilkewitz heard the call and provided an emergency grant of $15,000.

“Operation Homefront stepped in right away and took care of the families,” Wilkewitz said. “And with depleted cash reserves as a result of their crisis response efforts, they were in danger of having to cut back on other programs. DVNF wanted very much to see Operation Homefront continue its mission of supporting military families in need, so we provided the $15,000 grant right away.”

Operation Homefront Missouri Chapter President Jon Jerome says the emergency grant comes at an important time for his organization – local families of military personnel have suffered from the extremely cold winter and the tornado. “DVNF’s generous grant will allow us to continue providing service to our area military families,” he said.

“We were proud to help Operation Homefront. Their work ties in with our mission to support veterans and military families in need,” Wilkewitz said.

DVNF is one of the fastest growing veterans’ support groups in the United States. Since its inception in 2007, DVNF has provided goods and services to over 70,000 veterans. To learn more about how DVNF is helping veterans, visit www.DVNF.org.
