DirectRooms.com – Residents Remember Their Ancestors in Guilin on 3 to 5 April 2011

DirectRooms.com reveals that at the beginning of April a festival will be held in Guilin and throughout China where people will be conducting commemorative rituals to honour their past ancestors.

Guilin, China, March 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Qingming Festival occurs from 3rd to 5th April each year and is also known as the Pure Brightness Festival as the date marks the start of the fifth solar period and is a time when people go to enjoy the brighter weather of spring.

During this time visitors to Guilin will often see people tending to the graves of friends and relatives and because of this it’s commonly referred to as Tomb Sweeping Day in some parts. Residents can be seen tidying up the tombstones and arranging fresh flowers and the favourite foods of the deceased are placed by the grave which often includes wine and fruits. Other common acts to be seen are the burning of money, and household objects such as cars made out of paper, as these are believed to be transferred to the receiver in the afterlife.

The festival is a public holiday in China and the city and many people are due to travel to Guilin to enjoy the springtime in the area’s scenic parks and Guilin hotels are often left without vacancies at a majority of locations.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “As the weather starts to improve after the winter Guilin sees an increase in visitors and over the holiday hotels are especially busy.”
