BambooSK8 to Bring the Green at the Clash at Clairemont V

San Diego, CA, March 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- BambooSK8, a leading developer of eco-friendly, bamboo-constructed skateboard decks, announces their support for the Clash at Clairemont V. The benefit will be held at the Mission Valley YMCA/Krause Family Skate and Bike Park, on March 19.

BambooSK8 will bring the green element to the Clash at Clairemont V with their bamboo skateboards that boast top-notch pop, strength and sustainability. “We are proud to sponsor the Clash event again this year, as one of the premiere skateboard companies whose focus is fixated on greening the industry through the use of sustainable bamboo,” said BambooSK8 President Geoff Koboldt. The traditional seven-ply maple skateboard requires maple trees that take more than 50 years to mature before being cut down and at that point they’re gone forever. Using bamboo, a grass that quickly regenerates in three to four years significantly reduces the impact on the environment.

New deck designs include an exclusive, limited edition Clash at Clairemont V deck. The logo will be screened on BambooSK8’s hybrid short deck, giving kids the perfect canvas for autographs from Pro skateboarders like Tony Hawk, Andy MacDonald, Bucky Lasek, and more. Proceeds from the Clash deck will benefit the YMCA and Grind for Life. BambooSK8 will also be donating a portion of deck sales to a relief fund in response to the earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. Coincidentally, one of their graphics is based on a 19th century tsunami painting by Japanese artist Katsushita Hokusai. The company thought it was only fitting to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this deck. Next in design, BambooSK8 will unveil the Varsity, created by the United Kingdom’s top boardsport brand, Sutsu. The Varsity deck displays the Sutsu crest in a kind of academic, street-smart way. In addition to their short decks, BambooSK8 will feature their newest longboards: the 31.5” Locker Cruiser, 39” Square Tail, 42” Double Kick and 44” Pintail. In a continued effort to walk the green walk, they use 20 percent corn wheels on select longboards sold as completes.

During the event, BambooSK8 will tweet the locations of free decks hidden around the park for guests to find. Follow them at www.twitter.com/bamboosk8. Jeff Wright, Nick Sauls, Danny Hayes and Mikee Brown, all riders from the brand’s 2011 AM, Pro and Flow team, will be competing in events throughout the day.

The Clash at Clairemont brings together some of the best action sports athletes and live music to create a fun, family atmosphere. The event will benefit Grind for Life, a charity that provides financial assistance and education to cancer patients and their families. The event will also benefit the YMCA Skatepark. The festivities will include music by Agent Orange, skate demos, best trick contests, food, prizes, a vendor village and autographs. The Mission Valley YMCA/Krause Family Skate and Bike Park is located at 3401 Clairemont Dr., San Diego, CA 92117. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. The entrance fee is a $10 minimum donation and kids age 5 and under are free. For more event details please visit www.clashatclairemont.com.
