Hillsboro, OR, March 23, 2011 --( “Technology has always been a double-edged sword. It represents power to amplify our human proclivities for both creativity and destructiveness,” noted famed inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil at the end of William Van Winkle’s first interview for Computer Power User magazine ( Kurzweil led off what would become a decade of innovators, scientists, entrepreneurs, and luminaries that Van Winkle interviewed for CPU. In their own ways, each explored that double-edge blade. Now, in the “Architects of Tomorrow” ebook series, the best of these interviews are gathered into one place. Each interview contains previously unpublished and expanded content plus loads of 2011 follow-up discussion, making each chapter immediately relevant and intriguing.

“Volume 1” subjects include: Ray Kurzweil, founder Barbara Mikkelson, world champion gamer Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel, Esther Dyson, PayPal co-founder Max Levchin, electronic music pioneer Brian “BT” Transeau, hypertext creator Ted Nelson, VIA CEO Wenchi Chen, and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.

“Enthusiasts and IT people tend to get caught up in the nuts and bolts of technology,” says Van Winkle. “We’re so focused on the little details that it’s easy to miss the big picture. If we’re going to understand where we’ve come from and where we’re going, we need to get inside the heads of the people making it happen.”

There will be three volumes in the Architects of Tomorrow series, each containing 25 chaptered interviews. Volume 1 just launched on Amazon ( and Smashwords ( for $4.99. In additional to selling the ebook directly, Smashwords will also distribute the title to other major retailers, including Apple, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Sony, in the following weeks.
