)-- Tormach LLC announced the release of its new modular vacuum chuck system as an affordable solution for vacuum workholding. The system is designed to be quickly mounted in a vise, and includes a base plate manifold and a replaceable distribution plate. Additional machinable distribution blanks are available as well for designing custom workholding systems.
Applications Engineer Andy Grevstad says, “One of the problems with a lot of vacuum systems is setup time on the machine. This system is small enough that you can hold it right in your vice, and it’s easy to take on and off. The modular design allowed us to make it both more versatile and more affordable than most one-piece tables.”
The Modular Vaccum Chuck Kit includes a manifold plate, distribution plate, 2 right angle workstops and hardware integration kit. The distribution plate has 49 distribution ports, 0.250” diameter on 1” centers and a 125” wide grid for gasketing material and workstops. An aluminum blank plate is available as an accessory for custom workholding.
Tormach also offers a more traditional vacuum grid table kit that includes 15’ of vacuum hose with an inline slider shut-off valve and other additional accessories. For cases where a high quality of vacuum cannot be achieved the vacuum pump kit and optional vacuum pump exhaust filter prevent oil mist discharge to the atmosphere that can occur more readily in this situation.
