Local Healthcare Leader Partners with Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to Host the 8th Annual Hope Gala

Raleigh, NC, April 10, 2011 --( Vern Davenport, healthcare industry leader spokesman and lobbyist, has partnered with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to serve on the patron committee of the Triangle/Eastern N.C. Chapter’s 8th Annual Hope Gala. The event will be held Saturday, April 30 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. The event’s objective is to advocate and raise funds for type 1 diabetes. Through charitable corporate, family and community donations, JDRF continues to further its research worldwide. Founded in 1970 and recognized globally for funding research to discover the diabetic cure, JDRF has granted more than $1.5 billion towards diabetic research. Since 2004, the Hope Gala has brought together community leaders and supporters and has become a core aspect of fundraising efforts in the Triangle.

“When it comes to funding, facilitating and campaigning for type 1 diabetes, JDRF has always been at the forefront of the movement,” said Davenport. “To have the opportunity to actively be part of the cause JDRF stands behind and further educate the community is an honor. The Hope Gala will allow us to expose the community to the growing number of diabetic patients, increase awareness of diabetic complications and enhance funding towards scientific research.”

- The Hope Gala will present Diane K. Adams, Allscripts Executive Vice President of Culture and Talent, and her family with the 2011 “Living and Giving” award. The event will include a cocktail reception, dinner party, and silent and live auction.

About Vern Davenport:
An industry leader, spokesman and lobbyist, Roger L. (Vern) Davenport has three decades of senior executive experience in building and transforming healthcare IT businesses in the United States and globally. Most recently he was CEO of Misys Healthcare and led the strategic merger of Misys Healthcare Solutions and Allscripts, creating the U.S. market leader in acute and ambulatory clinical information systems. With a successful organizational leadership track record in taking difficult situations and executing rapid performance turnarounds, Davenport was a key figure in executing the successful Allscripts merger with Misys Healthcare Solutions. When Davenport joined Misys in 2007, the company had flat margins, declining bookings and eroding customer satisfaction and revenue. Davenport led a strategy to stabilize the company by selling off various business lines and implemented and executed a world-class management system. After the merger’s completion, Davenport handled the establishment of a Public and Payer Sector, which focused on payer provider integration and State Medicaid transformations. Davenport has a broad range of experience across the entire healthcare IT spectrum including radiology, modalities and software technology. He has worked for IBM, Shared Medical Systems, Kodak and Siemens Medical Solutions, where he performed a major merger similar to that he managed for Allscripts and Misys. Davenport has been named one of the “50 Most Powerful People in N.C. Business.” He earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.
