The First Annual Networker of the Year Award

The race is on - Submissions end on March 31st, 2007

Toronto, Canada, February 28, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The first annual Canadian Networker of the Year Award seeks to thank those people who selflessly help Canadian entrepreneurs grow their businesses. The goal of the project is to promote the skills needed to build a solid network the right way: by putting other people first.

Every business-owner can think of someone who has been generous with their contacts and knowledge – someone that has made a critical introduction or taken time out of their busy schedule to give much-needed help. This is the kind of individual who connects others to ideas and people of value without the expectation of financial reward.

Wendy Woods of Toronto-based Watershed Training Solutions officially launched the contest in April 2006 on behalf of BusinessPartnerships.ca, as a way of thanking the networkers in her life.

"Helping others is a fundamental principle for successful networking,” says Woods. “The Networker of the Year Award is a great way to recognize people who put others' needs first."

Being named Canada’s first ever Networker of the Year is quite an honour, but the title also comes with a special perk: a Caribbean cruise for two, courtesy of Travel Only.

To nominate someone for the contest, participants must visit www.networkeroftheyear.ca and complete the nomination form. Nominees receive points for any networking activities they engage in between now and the end of the contest, March 31, 2007. At that time, the nominee with the most points wins the title and the cruise.

“What is most interesting is seeing just how many people appreciate these special people and how willing they are to take a moment to nominate them for recognition for their deeds,” says Gisela McKay, director of Business Partnerships Canada, an online small business promotion group.

The yearlong search for the Networker of the Year ends soon but there is still plenty of time for business-owners to nominate a special networker. Nominators can get points for themselves toward winning by giving a brief testimonial on the web site, attending participating events, or getting involved in the online forum at www.BusinessPartnerships.ca.
