Free Text Marketing Campaign Sends Discount Coupons to Myrtle Beach Visitor Continues For a Second Year

TxtMB, the popular text marketing program launched by OIR Interactive in 2010, sends promotional offers for Myrtle Beach’s most popular restaurants and attractions directly to visitors’ cell phones.

Myrtle Beach, SC, April 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- OIR Interactive has begun its second annual txtMB campaign for Myrtle Beach. Local businesses, attractions, and restaurants can use txtMB to send out text-message promotions to people visiting or residing in the Myrtle Beach area. Once a Grand Strand visitor or resident opts into the free campaign by texting one of several keywords to the designated short code, he or she immediately begins receiving discounts via text to area attractions. Subscribers are invited to choose from among several entertainment categories and only receive messages that pertain to their selected interests.

TxtMB began last August to help tourists find quick deals and to help area businesses reach people through text messaging, which has become one of the most popular and convenient ways for people to communicate. The widespread use of text marketing and the increasing reliance on mobile devices for travel information have made txtMB a useful way to provide busy travelers with the area’s best deals. The program also allows local businesses a less expensive way to participate in text marketing without launching independent, comprehensive campaigns. Subscribers can receive offers to whatever entertainment categories they choose and can opt out at any time.

OIR CEO Justin Rockwell expects this year’s campaign to draw a lot of subscribers because the number of businesses using text-message marketing has increased. “Last year was our ‘pilot program’ for txtMB. We tried various local advertising venues to make txtMB known to visitors, and we were able to attract about 500 subscribers right away.” OIR expects txtMB to be more successful this year due to extensive advertising through print, TV, and billboards, as well as a timely launch date of Memorial Day weekend. “We launched our program late in the season last year,” Rockwell commented. “This year we’re hoping that we can attract subscribers at the very beginning of tourist season and make the most of our offerings.”
