)-- Beginning April 2011, the Superior Court of California, County of Orange began accepting eFiled court documents for Mental Health and Probate cases through One Legal, an Electronic Filing Serving Provider headquartered in Novato, California. The addition of Mental Health/Probate broadens electronic filing options at Orange County courts, which also accepts electronic filing of court documents for all Civil case types.
Electronic filing is a more secure, efficient way of delivering documents to the court. The One Legal eFiling application reduces court costs and staff time by delivering both the document, and information about the document, directly into the court’s data systems. Court documents are submitted into California’s Court Case Management System (CCMS) and the filer typically receives a confirmation notice within a few hours. The environment is also a clear winner. With the expansion of electronic court filing, filers and the court use less paper, less ink and transportation costs are greatly reduced. Another benefit to filers and the court is the simplified storage and accessibility of documents that can now be stored electronically, instead of in large warehouses.
Several Orange County agencies have been quick to adopt the system including; Orange County Office of the District Attorney, Orange County Offices of the Public Defender, Office of the County Counsel, County of Orange and County of Orange, Public Administrator/Public Guardian. “The transition to electronic filing for Orange County agencies has been very smooth,” said Jeff Karotkin, Vice President of Strategic Development for One Legal.
