New York, NY, May 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- For the first time, the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) is joining forces with nonprofit Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS NY) to help raise awareness of PAWS NY. Yale’s Third Annual Global Day of Service will promote PAWS NY at an event located at Tompkins Square Park in Downtown Manhattan near the dog run on the North side of the park on Saturday, May 14, 2011, from 10am to 5pm.

AYA and PAWS NY volunteers will be handing out free snacks for humans and their animal companions while generating awareness of PAWS NY’s mission to keep individuals suffering from terminal illnesses, disabilities, or other debilitating hardships together with their beloved pets. Guests at the booth will be able to shake hands with PAWS NY Founder, Rachel Herman, pet the PAWS NY loveable mascot, a tri-colored Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Merlin Manhattan, and make donations. "This year, PAWS NY is off to an extraordinary start. We are extremely grateful to be part of this very special Yale tradition," said Rachel Herman.

Following the Yale Day of Service event, AYA and PAWS NY will invite the neighborhood to attend a special PAWS NY Happy Hour at The Local 269 from 4 to 7pm. The proprietors of this popular local music bar have generously agreed to donate 20% of all drinks sold during the Happy Hour to PAWS NY. The Local 269 is located at 269 E. Houston St. near the corner of Suffolk in the Lower East Side of Downtown Manhattan.
