Vegan Hair Color - The New Rage

Cruelty-free skincare and cosmetics firms are booming. Can hair color companies be far behind?

Austin, TX, March 12, 2007 --(PR.com)-- As many women are choosing makeup, skin creams, and shampoos that have not been tested on animals, a new trend is beginning. Non-animal tested hair color.

Although plant-based henna has been used for centuries, women today often don't have the time it takes to mix and apply the mud-like brew. They are needing animal-friendly hair dyes that are quick and easy to use; that are safe; that create a dependable and repeatable color; and oh yes - that cover gray. And they don't want their hair damaged in the process.

At the beauty website My Makeup Mirror, they are starting to explore these qualities and pull together some real-life ideas for readers. Head writer Suzann Kale admits there is a lot of research involved. She says this first article, called "Color Your Hair Without Coloring the Bunny," is just a beginning.

Ms. Kale writes about all aspects of makeup, application, and product reviews, and began the cruelty-free aspect of My Makeup Mirror (www.MyMakeupMirror.com) by publishing articles about "green" cosmetics, and then faux fur. She tried vegan color on her own hair, and loved it. And she is now tracking down names of more vegan color companies to explore.

Through talking to other women around the world, in person and via the Internet, Suzann realized that many animal lovers would rather go gray than use a dye that has been involved with hurting another creature. Younger women whose roots don't yet grow in gray have a wider choice of products, and oddly enough, some of the safest products on the market are the neon pinks and oranges.

But Kale has found a number of hair dyes that she feels will have a big impact on the working adult woman. And although her article is up and published, she is still researching the subject and will add to the article as she finds new companies.

"We are trailblazers," she tells her My Makeup Mirror readers. "What is this trail? It's living a life of beauty based on compassion. Hair color tests on animals are particularly nasty. We must support alternatives with our dollars and our lifestyles."
