Blue Skies Recycling Celebrates 20 Eco-Friendly Years of Earth Day in Chesterfield

St. Louis based recycling company, Blue Skies Recycling, recently attended the 20th annual Earth Day celebration in Chesterfield, Missouri to promote their organic food waste recycling program and share with others the importance of recycling.

Saint Louis, MO, May 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Blue Skies Recycling, a local organics recycling company, was joined by 59 fellow exhibitors showcasing eco-friendly and recycling products, services, and information at the 20th Annual Earth Day celebration in Chesterfield. This year’s event, hosted by the City of Chesterfield’s Citizens Committee for the Environment, featured more recycling collectors than ever, a true testament to the suburban St. Louis community’s growing effort to conserve resources and preserve our planet.

Blue Skies’ recycling experts were on hand at the Earth Day celebration to educate the public about the benefits of recycling organic food waste. Using real clients such as the St. Louis Cardinals, Schlafly Brewery, and Regency Event Cleanup as examples, the team explained how participating in an organic food waste "valet" recycling program not only saves businesses time and money, but also helps divert a significant portion of their waste from ending up in a landfill. Instead, the waste is collected in Blue Skies’ signature yellow bins and hauled off to a licensed composting facility, where it is turned into a nutrient-rich soil supplement.

Blue Skies also shared information about its single-stream recycling program, which allows for a single collection point for glass, plastics, and other recyclable, but non-compostable waste.

“It was great to be part of a community event with such tradition,” said Blue Skies Recycling founder Harry Cohen. “Chesterfield’s twenty year commitment to a healthy planet is commendable.”

Exhibiting alongside Blue Skies Recycling were organizations collecting Styrofoam, mattresses, appliances, electronics, and tennis shoes. The Citizens Committee also gave away native trees and plants, CFL light bulbs, and reusable water bottles to attendees.

“With so many recycling and eco-friendly exhibitors participating this year, it is clear that the message of creating sustainable services and products to reduce our impact on the Earth is growing,” continued Cohen. He also noted that his recycling company stands out in a crowd.

“Of all of the local ‘green’ organizations, Blue Skies Recycling guarantees that the valet service is cost-neutral, or does indeed produce an ROI.” Cohen said. “Also, the impact we have on the environment is almost instant. Food, which obviously produces food waste, is vital to everyday life. People don’t usually recycle mattresses, appliances, and shoes on a daily basis.”

Regardless of the stand-out qualities of his company, Cohen was excited to be a part of this year’s event. He hopes that Blue Skies Recycling will celebrate local Earth Day celebrations, as in Chesterfield, for many years to come.
