Denver's Cat Care Society Completes Thirty Years of Service to the Community

The Cat Care Society is celebrating its 30th Anniversary and commemorating the milestone June 5th at Green Gables Country Club with the auction of 17 painted fiberglass cats, each about 28" tall and painted a different theme by local artists. The 'Tails of the Painted Cats' art celebration has been in progress for more than a year to raise awareness of the Cat Care Society's 30 years of growth and work going on every day for the real cats being helped by its cageless shelter.

Denver, CO, May 24, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Cat Care Society (CCS) is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. The announcement is made by Shari Shiffer-Krieger, CCS Executive Director, who says the milestone is being officially commemorated June 5th at Green Gables Country Club with the auction of 17 painted fiberglass cats, each about 28" tall and painted a different theme by local artists.

"Our 30th anniversary art event, 'Tails of the Painted Cats,' has been in progress for more than a year now to raise awareness of our past 30 years of growth and the work going on every day for the cats being helped by our cageless shelter and other related projects in the community," Shiffer-Krieger says.

Each Painted Cat has had an opening bid of $300.00, and bidding is in progress at the Lakewood Arts Council Co-op Gallery, 85 South Union Blvd., Suite C, through the end of May where the painted cats are on display. The emcee for the June 5th Dinner/Auction Gala is cat lover, April Zesbaugh, host of Colorado's Morning News on KOA. The Auctioneer is Don Martin. Tickets for the June 5th Dinner/Auction Gala are $75.00 and available by contacting the Cat Care Society.

"Some of our Painted Cats are standing, and some are sitting, but they are all unique, original works of art. Many organizations across the country have done various 'critter' art projects over the years with great success, so we decided this would be the perfect 30th Anniversary Event to benefit our shelter cats here in Denver," Shiffer-Krieger explains.

In addition to the 17 Painted Cats comprising the 30th Anniversary collection, local artist Jane McFadden Dorsey created the project's original "promo cat," Georgia O'Kitty, as sponsors and artists were recruited to participate. Sponsored by Poppy Shiffer-Krieger, Georgia O'Kitty is on display at the CCS lobby. For a $10.00 donation per ticket, names are entered in a drawing to take her home. The winner of Georgia O'Kitty will be announced at the June 5th Dinner/Auction Gala at Green Gables.

About the Cat Care Society

The CCS, founded in 1981 by Linda East, DVM and Lynn Rowe, is a nonprofit organization established to improve the quality of life for homeless, injured and abused cats in the Denver metropolitan area. The Society's goals are:

* To sponsor educational programs that promote responsible pet ownership, humane treatment of all animals, and the elimination of pet overpopulation;
* To shelter cats in a healthy, cage free environment and to find compatible and responsible families for every cat;
* To provide community outreach programs that improve the quality of life for cats and people;
* To be a friend to all cats.

The CCS' 14,000th cat, Jackpot, was adopted out to his 'forever home' earlier this month. This achievement, on the average for the CCS, is 467 cat adoptions per year, or 1.25 adoptions per day, every day for the Cat Care Society's first thirty years.

The CCS is supported by a number of loyal members and contributors, without whom the shelter could not operate. CCS receives no government funding. In addition, CCS volunteers assist with many fundraising activities each year such as book sales, Meow Mart, Cajun’s Closet Thrift Store, the holiday gift and bake sale and much more.
