The Sustainable North Bay Award reads “Presented to honor your commitment to over 30 years of producing healthy, organic, whole grain breads in a worker-owned cooperative. Your efforts to reduce energy usage such as installing one of the largest solar arrays in Petaluma offsetting forty percent of the company’s power needs are impressive. Thank you for setting an example and for your dedication to the environment, your employees and the community.”
Alvarado Street Bakery has been in business for over 30 years and is owned and operated entirely by the employees. Alvarado Street Bakery makes sprouted wheat breads and bagels that are sold in grocery stores and natural food stores nationally and internationally.
