Arizona's British Open Pub Marks Queen’s Coronation Anniversary with 41-Pint Salute

Scottsdale, AZ, May 31, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The British Open Pub in Scottsdale is marking the 58th anniversary of the Queen of England’s coronation with a free 41-pint salute.

The celebration is a take on the 41-gun salute that is performed every June 2 in England to mark the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, a ceremony also known as Coronation Day.

At 8 p.m. on June 2, British Open Pub owner Gregg Troilo will pour 41 pints of beer for the first 41 people to show up and then signal for the beginning of the Coronation Day salute. Afterward, the pub will have drink specials for all patrons, including a $2 Bud Light special, $2 Patron Citronage shots and extended happy hour pricing until closing.

“Being an English pub, it’s a given that we’d mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth,” said British Open Pub owner Gregg Troilo. “But why have a 41-gun salute? You can have a lot more fun with 41 pints of beer.”

In front of 8,000 guests at London’s Westminster Abbey, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned queen on June 2, 1953. Queen Elizabeth II was handed the four symbols of authority – the orb, the scepter, the rod of mercy and the royal ring of sapphire and rubies – and the crown was placed on her head by the Archbishop of Canterbury. She has since ruled England for the past 58 years.
