Chicago, IL, June 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- GoGirlGo! Chicago launches its 2011 “Get a Girl Going” Contest to fund new and existing sports programs for Chicago girls.

Ten Chicagoland community organizations will be awarded a total of $25,000 in grants and prizes on behalf of the Women’s Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo! program and its goal to give girls access to physical activity. GoGirlGo! gives girls the confidence they need to become the next generation of healthy and successful leaders.

“Get a Girl Going” is an online contest created to encourage Chicagoland community organizations to demonstrate their ability to deliver girls’ sports/physical activity programs. The contest invites organizations and schools to submit online applications describing how they plan to have girls in their community live healthier, more active lifestyles. 10 finalists will receive $1,000 and a mini camera that will be used to showcase their program. These videos will then be entered into an online competition where the community will cast their vote for their favorite video. The program with the highest combined percentage of online and judge’s votes will receive an additional $9,000 for a total grant award of $10,000 from GoGirlGo! Chicago. Contest winners use funds toward sports equipment, supplies, facility rental, league/tournament fees, travel, coaching, scholarships and/or program administration expenses.

The GoGirlGo! Program is designed to educate girls about health-risk behaviors and life lessons such as body image, bullying, diversity, smoking, drugs, stress and the value of physical activity. “Many assume that as the daughter of a beloved public figure, my life was always simple and successful…. But what they don’t know is that until I found my passion in boxing, I was involved in some of the dangerous behavior that we so desperately want to keep today’s girls away from,” said Laila Ali, Women's Sports Foundation president and Super Middleweight Boxing Champion.

The grant’s deadline has been extended to June 10, 2011. To apply for the grant, visit www.WomensSportsFoundation.org/Grants-And-Scholarships/Grants or call 773-478-8839. For further information on how to get your community involved with GoGirlGo! Chicago, visit www.GoGirlGo.com
