The Learning Alliance Launches Summer Literacy Programs
The Learning Alliance held a training session at Citrus Elementary School for all tutors participating in summer literacy programs. 35 tutors attended as well as reading professors from Indian River State College, leadership from Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and a teacher from Saint Edwards School. Training was led by experienced Learning Alliance teachers and master coaches. The hands-on training allowed tutors to practice the activities they will do with their students when tutoring begins.
Vero Beach, FL, June 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Learning Alliance will have literacy tutoring at The Boys and Girls Club of Indian River County and Gifford Youth Activity Center. Each tutoring site will be facilitated by a master coach. Students who are attending these summer camps and need support in reading will be eligible for free tutoring. Funding for the tutoring programs is provided by private donors.
The Learning Alliance partners with the School District of Indian River County during the school year to provide teaching training and literacy programs for children in grades K-3. Over 800 children have been served by Learning Alliance programs in all 13 elementary schools in the county.
The Learning Alliance is a grass roots, non-profit organization dedicated to dramatically improving student literacy in Indian River County. Through innovative, evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning, we empower teachers to transform children’s lives. They hope to create local solutions, which can serve as a model for the nation.
