Western Pennsylvania’s St. Jude Golf Club Hosts "Hope Classic" Charity Tournament August 26

One St. Jude helps another; inaugural St. Jude Golf Club Hope Classic to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Chicora, PA, June 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- St. Jude Golf Club is inviting golfers and companies in the Western Pa. community, to join in the effort as it hosts its inaugural charitable golf tournament – the St. Jude Golf Club Hope Classic – on Friday, August 26th, presented by the Frank B. Fuhrer Wholesale Company. Tournament proceeds will benefit another very special “St. Jude,” the internationally recognized St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The hospital, while based in Memphis, Tenn., treats patients from across Western Pa. and around the country, and was ranked the No. 1 children’s cancer hospital in the nation, according to the 2010-11 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings published by U. S. News & World Report.

“The hospital was such an obvious charity to support when we decided to host the tournament,” said St. Jude Golf Club President Colin Dunwoody. “There’s good karma between our two organizations and they do such amazing work to help children here locally and nationwide. Our St. Jude is delighted to help raise funds for this most worthwhile cause.”

The Tournament will be played as a modified team scramble, with registration, luncheon and warm up starting at 11:00 a.m. with a shot-gun start at 12:30 p.m. Tournament play will be followed by a cocktail reception, dinner, auction and the awarding of team and individual skill prizes. Players may register individually or as a foursome: $150/golfer or $550 per foursome, which includes lunch, 18 holes of golf, cart, reception, dinner and awards. Tickets for the reception and dinner only are $75 and are also available online or by calling St. Jude Golf Club.

Local organizations and businesses from large to small can support the fundraising effort through a wide variety of sponsorship levels – from a Gold Level sponsor at $5,000, which includes numerous opportunities for corporate recognition and two foursomes in the Tournament, to more modest options such as Hole Sponsors at $150 and Prize Sponsors for $50. Many sponsorship opportunities are still available, and can be viewed on the St. Jude Golf Club web site.

About St. Jude Golf Club
St. Jude is known for its highly manicured course and fast, true putting surfaces, and is located amidst the panoramic views of the Alleghenies. Just northeast of Butler, Pa., it’s consistently ranked as one of the Top 20 most challenging courses in Western Pa. Fondly known as “the Oakmont of the North,” given its long-standing ties to the world-renowned course. St. Jude plays to a challenging Par 70/6,712 yards, with a 73.3/138 course and slope rating from the championship tees. It can be enjoyed by golfers of all levels, but its reputation helps attract top amateurs as members who compete successfully in the national ranks. Designed in 1927 by highly regarded architect Emil Loeffler, it operated as a private club for 80 years, but is now semi-private, offering a variety of membership levels, very competitive daily rates and highly affordable Stay and Play packages with complementary shuttle service. Many upgrades have been recently made, with additional improvements including a practice facility opening in 2011; a new planned dining/entertainment venue; expansion of the pro shop; and a re-launch of the club’s restaurant.
