DirectRooms.com – Wikimedia Community Meets in Haifa for Annual International Conference from 1 to 3 August 2011

DirectRooms.com reports that members of the Tiki community will be meeting in Haifa to discuss attributes of wiki technology and to meet other members who have contributed code to the project.

Haifa, Israel, July 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- TikiFest Haifa 2011 will enable contributors to meet face to face, as usually all discussions take place over the web, and talk about the open source Tiki project. The event will run from 1st to 3rd August 2011 and afterwards WikiMania 2011 will start on the following four days. Wikimania only occurs once a year and the Wikimedia community meet to talk about ways to improve the free encyclopaedia and other services.

The schedule for the conference will cover areas such as the editorial policy for Wikipedia and how this can be reviewed and added to. Other topics will look into intellectual property and copyright issues and Wikipedia for mobile devices.

Dr Joseph Reagle will also be giving a presentation on Wikipedia, delving into its history, talking about whether its creation was an accident or not and debating if it’s in fact detrimental for learning.

Before and after the conference there will be parties held at Tiltan College of Design and in Hecht House and shuttles buses will run regularly to Haifa hotels at the end of each day.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “Hundreds of people will be turning up for the discussions and this will put extra pressure on hotels locally as some locations will be unable to cope with the demand.”
