)-- Sepi Asefnia, president of SEPI Engineering & Construction (www.sepiengineering.com), a firm which provides civil engineering and planning services to private and public sector clients across the Southeast, has announced that Joel D. Smith has been hired as a hydraulics engineer. He is responsible for working with the firm’s transportation department on roadway drainage projects.
A native of Clarksburg, W.V., Smith adds 15 years of industry experience and expertise in site development, including drainage, erosion control plans, utility plans and profiles. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from West Virginia University. Smith resides in Raleigh with his wife, Susan, and their daughters, Elisabeth and Malakhi.
“We are extremely lucky to have Joel as a part of our team,” said Asefnia. “He brings a wealth of site development knowledge and experience to the firm and will be essential to our transportation department’s continued success.”
- Prior to joining SEPI Engineering, Smith performed stream and river modeling to aid in state and federal FEMA floodplain mapping projects. He employed and trained others in the use of several software modeling programs to aid in the design of roadways, utilities, mass grading plans, and detention/retention pond design.
- Smith is a member of the Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC) Central Carolina Chapter.
