Scots Vote "No" in Confidence Poll

Government Provisions for Ageing Population are Not Adequate

London, United Kingdom, July 14, 2011 --(PR.com)-- When asked whether the Scottish government is making enough of a provision to handle the ageing population - only 6% of Scots asked said yes. Therefore an overwhelming majority feel that their country is heading into a social crisis situation and is inadequately prepared.

Scotland’s population is nearing 5.3 million. It is growing and ageing at an alarming rate. In the next 20 yrs the number of people aged between 60yrs and 74yrs will increase by 33%. Furthermore, the population aged over 75yrs will increase by a mammoth 84%.

It is estimated that there are 80,000 people suffering from a form of Dementia in Scotland and this figure is set to increase to 127,000 within the next 20 yrs. In line with Scotland’s ageing population this figure is set to double within the next 25 yrs.

Chris Millington, Managing Director of Doro UK, the company that commissioned the poll, said: “This is a significant demographic shift and will put a huge strain on the Scottish health service. Those responsible for the care and support of the ageing population in Scotland will need to change how they think and act.

“Our concept of using easy mobile phones to deliver health, wellbeing and lifestyle services directly into the palms of seniors will offer huge rewards. Applications such as medication reminders, blood glucose monitors and a mature lifestyle concierge service are all within reach.”
