Richmond Brothers Financial Management Specialists, Inc. Sponsors Community-Wide Shredding Event

Richmond Brothers is helping the Jackson community avoid identity theft while raising funds for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Jackson, MI, July 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On Saturday, August 6 Richmond Brothers Financial Management Specialists, Inc. will sponsor its first community-wide shredding event at the Brown Street entrance of Cascade Falls Park. The shredding event is an effort to help Jackson community members protect themselves from identity theft, raise money for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and promote recycling.

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. community members may bring boxes of sensitive paperwork to be shredded on site. Shredding services will be provided by a mobile unit of Shred-It, the world's leading document shredding and recycling company. The company utilizes a crosscut shredding process that reduces materials to confetti-sized pieces that cannot be reconstructed. Destroyed documents are then transferred directly to a recycling facility. Once there, they return to the marketplace in the form of items such as recycled household paper products.

“The FTC estimates that as many as nine million Americans have their identities stolen each year. We are pleased to offer this service to the Jackson community to not only help community members avoid identity theft, but also to educate them on additional steps they can take to defend themselves against this growing dilemma,” said David Richmond, Chairman & Chief Investment Officer of Richmond Brothers Financial Management Specialists, Inc. "In addition, we are excited to help on a nation-wide level by raising funds for the American Cancer Society at the same time.”

Richmond Brothers is asking members in the community to bring boxes of their sensitive paperwork to be shredded (including information with account numbers, birth dates, passwords, PINs, signatures and Social Security and/or driver’s license numbers). Paperclips and staples do not need to be removed. In return, Richmond Brothers is requesting a $10 donation to the American Cancer Society (per banker’s box size of materials).
