Turning 105: A Celebration of Independent Living with Lifelong St. Louisan Margaret Kohlhauff

Tower Grove Manor retirement community resident Margaret Kohlhauff has lived in St. Louis all of her 104-year life, seeing the city through historical moments, like the 1918 Spanish Flu, the creation of the Gateway Arch, and several other developments. She carries a unique perspective about life in the city and debunks myths about aging as an active, alert, thriving woman. On July 14, she turns 105.

St. Louis, MO, July 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Tower Grove Manor retirement community resident Margaret Kohlhauff has lived in St. Louis all of her 104-year life, seeing the city through historical moments, like the 1918 Spanish Flu, the creation of the Gateway Arch, and several other developments. She carries a unique perspective about life in the city and debunks myths about aging as an active, alert, thriving woman.

She takes no prescription medications, seldom requires a doctor’s care, and has lived at Tower Grove Manor independently for more than three decades. Using only a walker for minor support, Ms. Kohlhauff attends and takes part in Tower Grove Manor’s many activities and events.

Who: A St. Louis native, Ms. Kohlhauff went to McKinley High School and later worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for local businesses. She always took the streetcar to work and lived for many years on Virginia Avenue, not far from Tower Grove Manor.

WHAT: A 105th birthday celebration with family and friends, cake, decorations, music, and a look back through the years with a collection of photos from throughout Ms. Kohlhauff’s life. She will be available for interviews about the latest news headlines, reflections about life in the city and will be revealing the secrets to her longevity. She will also be serenaded by entertainer Lee Carter, a local piano player and singer.
