China Investment Promotion Agency Delegation Attends North Carolina China Center Hall of Fame Golf Tournament

Former NCCC Vice Chairman Bill Owens Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Research Triangle Park, NC, July 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The North Carolina China Center (http://www.ncchinacenter.org/), housed at the World Trade Park in the headquarters building of Longistics (http://www.longistics.com), hosted members of the China Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA) delegation for a nine-hole golf tournament at Brier Creek Country Club benefitting the nonprofit NCCC on June 27. The golf tournament was the culmination of a summit for CIPA delegation members along with area business leaders to promote business and technology development and collaboration between North Carolina and China. CIPA is a division of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce that organizes and promotes inbound and outbound foreign investment.

Bill Owens, former vice president of Lenovo and former NCCC vice chairman, was inducted into the NCCC Hall of Fame at the summit. Among the 47 golfers were 15 delegates from CIPA, Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Harvey Schmitt, NCCC and Longistics Chairman Duane Long and Ambassador Sam Poole. One surprise of the afternoon came on the last hole of the day, a par three, when Barry Gardner of Shelco Inc. shot a hole-in-one.

Quote:
“It was an honor to host the delegates from CIPA for a round of golf following a productive and busy morning of discussions,” said Duane Long, North Carolina China Center chairman. “It provided a great opportunity to strengthen our cultural bonds while celebrating Bill Owens’ Hall of Fame induction.”
