eatdrink Announces Online Gifting Company for Food and Wine Lovers

There is a great divide between the quality of the wines being sold and gifts for wine lovers. eatdrink is filling this divide.

Los Angeles, CA, August 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- eatdrink was founded by wine expert Paul Wasserman, son of legendary wine broker Becky Wasserman, and business partner Karen Cease, to offer beautiful, unusual “things for foodies and winos,” gifts for wine lovers including inspired paraphernalia and sumptuous limited edition books. “Whether these things are books we publish ourselves,” says Wasserman, “accessories we have specially made, or lines we simply fall in love with, what we carry will be made with the kind of care, love and attention to detail bestowed on the greatest artisanal wines, and, like such wines, they will have great character.”

As a wine merchant, Wasserman noticed a great divide between the quality of the wines he was selling and gifts for wine lovers – paraphernalia, accessories, art and books devoted to food and wine. “You always have enthusiastic people coming into the store,” Wasserman says, “hoping to buy their favorite wine aficionado a wine gift that isn’t the umpteenth bottle of a great vintage, decanter or corkscrew. They were looking for something special, unusual and, of course, they expected to find it in a wine store. I always had to turn them away because there really isn’t a lot to offer. I vowed then to do something about it.”

eatdrink’s first “thing” is the book ‘Bouquet’, by G. B. Stern. It will be released this month in a stunning cloth bound silk screened hard cover limited edition of 950 copies, with 26 copies held back for contractual obligations, and will retail for $85.00, plus tax and shipping, exclusively at eatdrink.co. eatdrink commissioned award-winning Taiwanese illustrator and animator Hsinping Pan who has designed a whimsical, joyous, folk art inspired cover for “Bouquet.” Printed with eco-friendly ink on heavy FSC certified paper, ‘Bouquet’ is being printed in Pasadena, CA with The Castle Press.

From highly esteemed author, playwright and literary critic G. B. Stern, ‘Bouquet’, which has been out of print since 1933, recounts Stern’s 1926 tour of the vineyards and restaurants of France with her husband, Johnny, and their friends, Rosemary and Humphrey. Stern’s prose is brilliant, witty, hilarious and utterly addictive. Upon its release, the New York Times called “Bouquet” a “triumphal tour” and stated that Mrs. Stern had “set it down with that happy sense of humor, that perfect eye for the ridiculous and that instinctive understanding of French character that lifts ‘Bouquet’ very far from the usual dry book about wine.”

More Things

eatdrink is at work on the release of a book for the certifiable wine geek. First published in 1855, ‘Dr. Lavalle’s History and Statistical Study of the Vineyards and the Great Wines of the Cote-d’or ‘ is one of the most important works ever written on the wines of Burgundy. The book was originally released with magnificent artwork, six lithographs tipped into the book as well as an album containing an additional nine lithographs and a 6’ x 1’ map. This artwork is extremely rare. This winter, eatdrink will release the first French facsimile of this book ever to contain the original artwork, and the first ever reprint of the album. eatdrink will also be releasing the first ever English translation of the book. There will ultimately be a box set of the French facsimile and the English translation along with a portfolio of the nine lithographs that will be suitable for framing and the map. Alone or in combination, Lavalle makes a great gift for wine lovers.

By the end of 2011, eatdrink will be offering more “things.” Among other accessories, expect custom-made wine totes from recycled leather with a very edgy Los Angeles feel, as well as gorgeous lines of French and Italian wine accessories which have so far never been seen, or seen only confidentially, on our shores.
