National Night Out Celebrates with Foundation for a Drug-Free South

Nashville, TN, August 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Tuesday night marked the 28th annual National Night Out and many communities in the Nashville area participated in the program. The event is geared to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community relationships in the fight for a safer nation.

In the Edgehill neighborhood, community groups came together and held events with food, dancing, games and information booths to help promote a safer neighborhood.

One such group is Isaiah 58, Belmont's ministry to the poor and disenfranchised in Nashville. Through the Isaiah 58 ministry, Belmont is able to extend a lifeline to those with short-term needs, as well as develop long-term relationships with individuals and families trapped in a cycle of poverty. They came with a busload of clothes and food for those in need at the Night Out celebration.

A main objective of National Night Out Send is to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

That’s why the Foundation for a Drug-Free South came out to distribute materials on The Truth About Drugs to young and old alike. “We have a message to get out to our youth—and adults!” says Audra Thomas with the Foundation. “I feel a personal responsibility to get these materials out into the neighborhood so people aren’t caught in the drug trap.”

Residents enjoyed a beautiful evening for meeting friends, neighbors, police officers, and public officials.
