Beyond Expectations to Host Teen Workshops for National Financial Literacy Month

April is National Financial Literacy Month. Beyond Expectations (BE) has announced that it will host free workshops for teens geared to help them make informed financial decisions as they transition into adulthood.

Willingboro, NJ, March 31, 2007 --(PR.com)-- April is National Financial Literacy Month. Beyond Expectations (BE) has announced that it will host free workshops for teens geared to help them make informed financial decisions as they transition into adulthood. The workshops will be tailored from the Banking on Our Future (BOOF) curriculum by Operation Hope, Inc. (OHI).

"OHI believes that by working with organizations who are reaching out to educate youth, such as Beyond Expectations, and partnering with them to showcase our programs, we can create an even greater impact on our communities," said Tom Thunstrom, OHI Philadelphia Area Program Manager. The mission of BOOF is to execute a nationwide delivery system for financial literacy education for youth ages 9-18 at no cost to school districts, with a focus on urban, underserved communities. OHI is America’s leading provider of economic tools and services. "Educating our children around the basics of banking and how to save will lay the foundation for a future of savers in our nation," said Thunstrom.

"We are pleased to see our partnership with Operation Hope continue to flourish as we work collectively to expand quality financial education into the South Jersey region," said Leontyne H. Anglin, president, Beyond Expectations. This is also another event co-sponsored with the Willingboro High School PTSA. "Beyond Expectations actually hosted our first ever financial literacy workshop with the PTSA so it is particularly gratifying to work together again this year," said Anglin.

Workshops will take place on Wednesday, April 18 at 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm at Willingboro High School and the Willingboro Public Library, respectively.

The afternoon session will be presented to students in the school's Making Visions Possible (MVP) program. MVP is a state sponsored program that works to empower teens and young adults through its employment, health, social, and recreational services. "Financial literacy is a growing concern for teens," said Gregory S. Smith, Program Director. "We are glad to play a part in helping teens develop healthy practices."

In the Delaware Valley, OHI has reached nearly 10,000 students since its program launch in late 2003, with over 9000 reached since September 2005. The growth of the program has been attributed to developing partnerships in neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia, using financial service industry personnel to teach banking skills in schools, non-profits, and other agencies.

"I strongly believe that the need for quality financial education crosses all socio-economic lines," said Anglin. "These workshops are yet another example of how organizations can work collaboratively to leverage our strengths to affect positive change."
