Raytheon Company and FBI CJIS Announced as Recipients of the 2011 IJIS Institute Innovation Award

Third annual IJIS Institute award honors industry and federal partners for their work on the National Law Enforcement Data Exchange (N-DEx) project.

Ashburn, VA, August 24, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security, along with Emergency Management Magazine, sponsor of the Innovation Award, are pleased to announce the Raytheon Company and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division as the co-recipients of the 2011 IJIS Institute Innovation Award.

The award is being presented to Raytheon and FBI CJIS for their work on establishing N-DEx, a first-of-its-kind secure platform for national criminal justice information sharing. The FBI N-DEx Project Program Manager is Jeff Lindsey.

N-DEx ties together existing disparate criminal justice databases for nationwide integration and discovery of data. The system enables federal, state, local, and tribal agencies across the country to collaborate and share actionable information to fight crime and prevent terrorism. From incident reports to incarceration data, N-DEx gives users an easy way to search, link and analyze criminal justice data on a national basis in a manner never before possible--from one secure website.

The system currently manages more than 100 million criminal justice records, and is already contributing directly to law enforcement success. When fully adopted across the criminal justice community, N-DEx will connect 200,000 investigators at more than 18,000 federal, state, and local agencies while managing more than one billion records.
