Old Tappan Volunteer Fire Department is Ready to Spoon

Old Tappan's first Spoon Me Frozen Yogurt Shop earmarks "Keep the Change" Donations to Support Fire Prevention and Education during October.

Old Tappan, NJ, September 29, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Old Tappan Volunteer Fire Department will be the first recipient of proceeds from Spoon Me Frozen Yogurt's "Keep the Change Program" which will donate all tips, extra change and donations collected in the month of October.

October is National Fire Prevention Month that focuses on educating children on fire safety at home, in the community and in forests. The Old Tappan Volunteer Fire Department will participate in their own Fire Prevention Week and host an Open House at the station on Old Tappan Road on October 11th from 6-10pm.

Spoon Me Frozen Yogurt named the Old Tappan Volunteer Fire Department as the first recipient of their Keep the Change Program, a program which gives back monetary proceeds to organizations and charities within the Old Tappan community.

“Our goal is to support the Fire Department who does so much to keep us safe,” said Karen Capone, one owner of Spoon Me. “We hope the program will help raise awareness for Fire Prevention Week and highlight the good work of the Department.”

The Keep the Change Program awards one charity or organization each month with the proceeds from a donation box located at the cash registers.

“We do not accept tips,” said Barbara Schiavi-Buquicchio. “We rather see spare change and tip money from an entire month of business go to an organization that is bettering our community, and the Old Tappan Volunteer Fire Department works hard to do that on a daily basis.”

The recipient of the month is also reserved one focus day to promote their organization or charity. For the Old Tappan Fire Department, that day will be October 11th to complement their Open House that will take place down the road from the Spoon Me location.

Capone and Schiavi-Buquicchio want their new business to be more than a place to get healthy frozen yogurt. The women want to see their store give back to schools, business communities and philanthropic efforts that will grow and enrich the lives of their customers.

Spoon Me Frozen Yogurt & Smoothies is located at 46E Bi-State Plaza, 216 Old Tappan Road in Old Tappan, NJ. The Grand Opening of the location will take place on Friday, October 7th starting at 11 a.m.
