Former SEC Regional Director Joins Thompson & Knight

Dallas, TX, September 29, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Thompson & Knight LLP is pleased to announce Rose L. Romero has joined the Firm as a Partner in the Dallas and Fort Worth offices, where she will focus her practice on white-collar criminal litigation, government investigations, SEC regulation and enforcement, and commercial litigation. Ms. Romero previously served as the Regional Director for the Fort Worth office of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2006-2011.

As Regional Director at the SEC, Ms. Romero led the Enforcement and Examination Programs for the Southwestern Region and served on the Enforcement Division’s Leadership Team. She directed the investigation and prosecution of federal securities law violations, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, insider trading, accounting, corporate reporting, and investment adviser and broker-dealer fraud.

Prior to her service with the SEC, Ms. Romero was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas from 1989-2006, where she served in several supervisory roles, including Deputy Criminal Chief and Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney under former U.S. Attorney and fellow Thompson & Knight Partner Richard B. Roper. She investigated and prosecuted cases involving all levels of corporate fraud, including financial fraud, money laundering, health care fraud, and mortgage fraud. Ms. Romero personally tried more than 60 federal criminal cases to favorable jury verdicts and conducted numerous grand jury investigations and prosecutions in conjunction with the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division.

Ms. Romero has served on special assignments for the Department of Justice, including serving as an advisor and instructor for the Overseas Prosecution Development and Assistance Program in Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Honduras, and Mexico. She investigated terrorism cases and frequently appeared before the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

Her prior experience also includes serving as an Assistant District Attorney for the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office from 1987-1989. She was a Police Officer for the Fort Worth Police Department from 1980-1985 and was Active Duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1974-1978.

During her public service, Ms. Romero received numerous distinctions and honors, including being named Prosecutor of the Year and a recipient of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Director’s Award for Excellence and Chief Postal Inspectors Award. She received numerous commendations and awards from government agencies, including the Department of Justice, FBI, U.S. Customs Service, and the IRS.
