The Gigabit Challenge Calls for Applications and Executive Summaries from Entrepreneurs Who Want to Create the Future on the Google Fiber Network

Kansas City, MO, October 05, 2011 --( Yesterday morning, The Gigabit Challenge began accepting applications and executive summaries from those startup entrepreneurs, early-stage businesses and existing growth companies that are interested in the chance to develop new businesses and disruptive technologies on the upcoming first-in-the nation Google Fiber network. Hosted by Think Big Partners (, a community leader in early-stage business innovation and entrepreneurship, the Gigabit Challenge is the first step in helping entrepreneurs to develop exciting next-generation businesses on the Internet.

Interested businesses, entrepreneurs and innovators are now invited to participate in the global competition in order to transform ideas into new companies that fulfill Google’s mission of developing new applications that will expand human welfare. Applications accompanied by 3-5 page executive summaries are currently being accepted. Acceptance of applications and executive summaries will close on October 31, 2011. At that time, all applications will be submitted to the initial judging panel and up to twenty-five (25) finalists will be announced by November 15, 2011. Applications and executive summaries are to be electronically submitted via the Gigabit Challenge website at The business plan competition will be managed using a powerful Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application known as iStart provided by the Kauffman Foundation.

Once the top finalists have been determined, those finalists will have 30 days to submit short form business plans consisting of ten (10) pages with five (5) additional pages of supporting documentation. Short form business plans are due by December 15, 2011 with the announcement of winners to take place at a Kansas City event in January of 2012. The announcement of winners and the launch of their businesses will coincide with the rollout of the Google Fiber network which is expected to be available to consumers in early 2012.

In late August, the Gigabit Challenge announced that it will award more than $200,000 in cash and services, with the grand prize valued at $100,000 for the winning entrepreneur.

“The Gigabit Challenge is all about thinking big, with a gig,” said Tyler Prochnow, one of the founders of Think Big Partners. “The Challenge wants to recognize those businesses that are going to disrupt the current state-of-the-art utilizing the Google Fiber network. The early response has been very positive and we are expecting big things.”
