Wiegand Foundation, Inc., to Mark Statue of Liberty’s 125th, Bronze Art Medal Lapel Pins to be Made Available to Select Nonprofit Organizations

New York, NY, October 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Sculptor Don Wiegand and The Wiegand Foundation, Inc., in Chesterfield, Missouri, along with the Statue of Liberty Club announces the minting and availability of art medal lapel pins to commemorate the October 28, 2011, 125th anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. The limited-edition 1 ¼” bronze art medal lapel pins are being gifted to select nonprofit organizations to be presented to select volunteers and donors.

In 1985, Sculptor Don Wiegand, was commissioned by the Statue of Liberty–Ellis Island Foundation through Fine Art Limited to sculpt and cast a 3-dimentional Bartholdi Sculpting Liberty piece for the 1986 reopening and centennial celebration of the Statue of Liberty. The first bronze cast is on exhibit at the Bob Hope Memorial Library on Ellis Island.

For the statue’s 120th anniversary, Wiegand sculpted a bas-relief of the Bartholdi Sculpting Liberty composition which was presented by the Statue of Liberty Club to Musée Bartholdi in Colmar, France. A bronze 100th anniversary Bartholdi medallion, patterned after the bas-relief, was commissioned by the Statue of Liberty Club and made available to club members worldwide.

The art medal lapel pins were minted by Medallic Art Company/Northwest Territorial Mint, the largest private mint in America, which operates an 118,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art minting facility in Dayton, Nevada.
