Small Online Actions Create Large Donations for Charity

Seattle, WA, October 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Lisa Halstead, board president of GreaterGood.org, announced today that grants totaling more than $2.7 million have gone to 109 charities and nonprofits operating in the United States and around the world between January and September 2011. Most of these grants began as free clicks by visitors who come to the GreaterGood Network's suite of cause-related websites daily or quick online donations of $10 to $50 through GreaterGood's Gifts That Give More program.

“We’re delighted that we’ve been able to help so many this year,” said Halstead. “In particular, visitors to the GreaterGood Network have been outstanding in supporting disaster relief efforts in 2011. But the fourth quarter of the year, October through December, is when we usually see the most activity on our websites and we hope to be able to do even more.”

Recipients have used these funds to respond to the devastation caused by natural disasters, to alleviate hunger and poverty, to provide health services to those suffering from cancer and to vulnerable children, to support education and literacy programs, to preserve rainforests and other vital wildlife habitats, and to fund protection and care for animals living in shelters and sanctuaries.

Every grant began as a simple and often free action on the part of visitors to the GreaterGood Network’s websites. From clicking on a website’s homepage button to playing a game to sending an e-card, these free actions added up to significant donations for GreaterGood’s charitable partners. Other grants were made possible by the Gifts That Give More [tm] program (100% of all donations received through this online program go to the nonprofit or project selected by the donor) and purchases of products sold at the GreaterGood Network stores (a portion of all sales goes to the cause selected by the shopper).

“The GreaterGood Network proves every day that individuals making even a small donation or taking a quick action can dramatically impact the lives of others,” said Mercy Corps CEO Neal Keny-Guyer. "The Horn of Africa is currently facing its worst drought in 60 years. Thanks to donations from GreaterGood and others, we've already been able to help over 1 million people, providing immediate access to food and water, as well as working on longer term recovery."

In October, a major benefactor of this activity is the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s program to provide free mammograms for women without insurance or who are underinsured. The organization receives approximately $600,000 annually from GreaterGood.org.

“GreaterGood.org has been a tremendous sponsor and advocate for breast cancer awareness,” said Janelle Hail, NBCF Founder and CEO. “The GreaterGood Network’s Click-to-Give and E-Commerce initiatives have helped NBCF provide thousands of mammograms and early detection services to women that could not otherwise afford them.”

Support for NBCF’s programs comes from the pink “Click Here To Give” button and other activities on The Breast Cancer Site, one of the eight “Click Here To Give” websites in the GreaterGood Network.

Starting next month, as people shop for the holidays, GreaterGood's original "Click Here To Give" website, The Hunger Site, is a popular destination for visitors looking for unique gifts that give back, said Halstead. The Hunger Site provides funding for programs to fight hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. A portion of every purchase provides funding to its charitable partners. The Hunger Site’s online store features fair trade items, handcrafted items made by women’s co-ops, and other unusual gifts.
