Surgeon Partners with Former Soldier to Enhance National Security

New company seeks to defeat improvised explosive devices with innovative technologies.

Murrells Inlet, SC, October 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Heart surgeon Dr. Robert A. Phillips Jr. has found a new way to save lives. Phillips is the co-founder and chief executive officer of ExNovo Worldwide, a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) specializing in national defense and intelligence operations.

Phillips, a cardiothoracic surgeon in London, Ky., has partnered with Chief Operating Officer Alan Yarborough, to create ExNovo. Yarborough has 27 years of intelligence and defense-related experience and was the founder and CEO of Centre Analytics International, Inc. for 10 years.

“ExNovo started when two friends, a surgeon and a soldier, decided to work together to save lives now and work toward securing the future of the United States for generations to come,” Yarborough said.

The company, headquartered in Murrells Inlet, S.C., offers a bevy of services designed to enhance national security, including general management consulting, intelligence support services, technology-based research and development, enterprise systems engineering and integration solutions.

“The Senior management team has over 50 years of experience in analytic problems in both private and military concerns,” Phillips said, “We are constantly upgrading ourselves so we stay on the cutting edge for our customers.”

Employing a cadre of research scientists, analysts and engineers, ExNovo is tackling some of the most challenging issues concerning national security, including developing technologies to defeat improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

"The counter IED research and development work that we are doing focuses on combining commercial off-the-shelf technologies with our own proprietary technologies in an effort to reduce the time from concept to fielding and drastically reduce the cost to taxpayers,” Yarborough said. “This technology saves lives on the battlefield, so fielding the new technology quickly is absolutely essential.”

In recent years, the U.S. military has begun outsourcing many jobs once filled by active duty service members to private contractors. ExNovo helps fill these non-combat support positions with professionals who are knowledgeable and experienced. ExNovo is uniquely capable of helping government agencies cut costs and increase effectiveness.

“We practice strategic agility, and focus on operating lean in every way, this guarantees efficiency,” Yarborough said.

All of the services ExNovo offers are designed to address the unique challenges faced by our nation’s military and intelligence agencies.

“We understand the true meaning of asymmetric warfare because our staff has experienced it up close, so ExNovo strives to create solutions that are adaptive and modular by design so that we can interchange parts, including sensors, quickly and easily,” Yarborough said. “We will not allow our troops to be a step behind on the battlefield and we endeavor to ensure the war fighter is equipped to aggressively engage the asymmetric threat preemptively and proactively, and in a way that leaves them with no desire to continue the fight."

With Phillips’ expertise leading the way, ExNovo also offers a medical intelligence analysis service to federal agencies and corporations in the public sector. For years, government agencies have employed doctors to assess the health of world leaders. ExNovo takes this practice one step further by offering these same types of assessments to corporations that might be interested in the health of their competitors.

ExNovo offers a broad variety of services in the professional, scientific and technical services industries, primarily research and development of advanced weapons technologies and space-based technologies. Although not discussed openly in detail by any of the staff, ExNovo also offers high risk Human Intelligence (HUMINT) support to the special operations community.

“We offer a translational process and practice strategic agility for all of our clients,” Phillips said. “We are able to break down our client’s problems and present opportunities that most in our business don't see.”
