Kultur celebrates National Opera Week which is being recognized worldwide this year from October 28th to November 6th.

The earliest composition considered an opera was Dafne, written in 1597 by the composer Jacopo Peri. Over the ensuring 400 years hundreds of operas have been written, and many have become legendary along with the singers who portrayed particular roles.

With the advent of sound recording and film at the beginning of the twentieth century, the world was finally able to see and hear the greatest opera talents of the day.
