Nov. 5: Rebuilding Together and Washington Gas Team Up to Winterize Homes for Low-Income, Elderly, and Vets for “Energize Alexandria”

Teams of volunteers will join Rebuilding Together Alexandria for Energize Alexandria, a day when volunteers fan out around the city to winterize homes for low-income homeowners.

Alexandria, VA, November 02, 2011 --(PR.com)-- What: Rebuilding Together Alexandria is teaming up with Washington Gas volunteers and others during its Energize Alexandria event to help nearly 100 struggling Alexandria, Va. residents winterize their homes. With support from Honeywell, Lowes, and Sears, volunteers will weatherize and provide free energy-efficient upgrades to homes of veterans, low-income, disabled, and elderly residents during this city-wide event to help vulnerable families and individuals maintain and afford to stay in their homes. In addition, Rebuilding Together Alexandria is distributing free Energy Efficient Kits to clients interested in upgrading their own homes.

Why: With the help of funders and volunteers, Rebuilding Together Alexandria works to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize the Alexandria community by providing free home repairs. These upgrades are important since most of Rebuilding Together Alexandria’s clients live near the poverty level—earning less than $22,000 a year—and typically spend about 14 percent of their income on energy—as compared to 3.5 percent for other households. Rebuilding Together Alexandria has worked on more than 1,400 projects in Alexandria since its inception in 1986.

When: Saturday, November 5, 2011, kick-off program starts at 8:30am.
