Rescentris Delivers CERF Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) with Strict e-Records Compliance Options for Added Patent Protection Required by Industry

Leading Biotechnology Companies Choose CERF ELN with New Digital Sign and Witness Capabilities to Minimize Intellectual Property Risks.

Columbus, OH, November 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Rescentris, Inc. today announced that it had delivered its award-winning CERF product to several well-known biotechnology companies with new features for added patent protection. CERF is a scalable, cross-platform electronic lab notebook (ELN) software solution used by life sciences and other R&D organizations that migrated away from paper-based record keeping to increase efficiency and collaboration.

Patents and protecting intellectual property (IP) are critical to the success of research companies. The need for compliance with record keeping and evidence regulations such as 37CFR, FRE 803(6), and 21CFR11 is accelerating adoption of ELNs to replace broken paper-based signing and witnessing processes and non-compliance with internal IP policies.

R&D departments in a number of biotechnology companies requested ELNs to improve scientific productivity. Executive leadership mandated an affordable solution with rigorous controls in place to be able to prove that their lab record keeping processes were locked down to ensure security and regulatory compliance. These companies selected Rescentris to provide their ELN. In addition to standard CERF features such as authentication, access controls, and audit trails that documented every ELN activity, they had additional requirements for digital signature/witnessing status reports, automated notifications and warnings, proof that lab records were reviewed before digital signings, multiple signature workflows for different departments, and proof that the records, sections, and underlying documents and data were all properly signed, witnessed, and not altered.

The customers also wanted social tagging to facilitate collaboration and finding data faster for patents. Rescentris implemented the new features as standard product extensions to take advantage of CERF’s unique worry-free upgrade capabilities resulting from its semantic systems architecture and component-based design. The rich, pure HTML CERF ELN web client also allows administrators to manage and configure record keeping policies, as well as to turn on the features they want enabled – or to turn off unneeded features and templates to simplify user experience. These ELN advances allowed the research organizations to closely monitor record creation processes and act to ensure compliance and high quality laboratory records in a timely and efficient manner.

“We listen closely to our customers,” stated Rescentris President Jeff Spitzner. “Scientists want an ELN that is fast and easy to use and handles their diverse activities with minimal changes to the way they work. Business wants the benefits of increased efficiency and collaboration. Everyone wants to make sure that intellectual property is captured and protected because patents drive profits.” Dr. Spitzner also said that increasing numbers of academic labs are very concerned about good record keeping, including user authentication and time-stamps, and that patent reform is raising their awareness of the need for ELNs to protect their inventions.
