New Incentive Approach Drives Near-Term Cost Savings and Engagement

Trifectaâ„¢ Methodology Delivers Mix of Immediate, Intermediate and Long-Term Results.

Lyndhurst, NJ, November 03, 2011 --( IncentOne, the leading provider of incentive solutions to the healthcare industry, has released its latest Research Review on a new incentive methodology – called Trifecta™ - that aligns incentives to actions that produce immediate and intermediate cost savings in addition to longer-term behavior change. Most current approaches to healthcare incentives focus predominantly on behavior change over time, ignoring shorter-term cost savings benefits.

IncentOne’s findings are explained in a Research Review entitled “Delivering Short-Term Cost Savings and Engagement Through Incentive-Driven Healthcare,” the second in the “Science of Health Incentives™” series. The document may be accessed at

Trifecta has also been developed to provide for a mix of outcomes, participation and cost savings program designs, and to be applied to both patient and provider programs.

“While there is significant evidence that incentives impact cost by driving long-term risk reduction, those bearing the brunt of financing healthcare are also seeking short-term results,” said Michael Dermer, President and CEO of IncentOne. “We looked at our 20 million transactions and the perspective of our clients to develop a methodology to realize results in the short term while impacting the longer term and to know what works, what doesn’t work, and why.”

IncentOne’s analysis was based on multiple years of client interactions and volumes of actual incentive and engagement data including:

- 3,500 unique health programs
- 15 million health milestones
- 20 million transactions
- 125 data sources

“It has become well accepted that incentives are a cornerstone of any engagement strategy,” said Dr. David Gorstein, Managing Director of Health Innovations LLC. “A methodology that can deliver immediate and intermediate savings and can be applied to patients or providers and to participation, outcomes and cost saving objectives is sorely needed as we approach the full impact of healthcare reform in 2014.”
