SWACHA Joins with FS-ISAC to Help Financial Institutions Defend Against Cyber Attacks with CAPP Exercise

Dallas, TX, November 04, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dallas-based SWACHA, one of the largest not-for-profit regional payment associations in the country, is set to support the 2011 Cyber Attack Against Payment Processes (CAPP) simulation exercise on November 7- 9 and November 14 -16. The event, sponsored by Financial Services – Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), is designed to help financial institutions assess their readiness to defend themselves against cyber-attacks.

For three consecutive days, hundreds of financial institutions throughout the country will respond to simulated cyber security attacks to assess their response procedures.

“Cyber-attacks are a serious concern in the banking industry, so it is imperative that our members ensure they are fully prepared if a threat arises,” said Dennis Simmons, AAP, president and CEO of SWACHA. “This exercise will allow these banks and credit unions to evaluate their current procedures and identify potential gaps in planning and protection, to ensure minimal losses in the face of an actual cyber-attack.”

Despite the need for strong protections against cyber-attacks, consumers currently have high confidence in the security of electronic payments according to a recent study by SWACHA. Ninety percent of Texas consumers reported they have never had any problems with electronic payments and 72 percent indicated they had no concerns regarding the security of electronic payments.

The 2011 CAPP Exercise also allows financial institutions to benchmark their business practices based on their peers’ responses and provide valuable practice for their incident response team.
