Dawna Lee Heising of Eye on Entertainment Interviews Award-Winning Actress and Humanitarian Sally Kirkland

The Legendary Actress Won a Golden Globe Award for Her Performance in ANNA and Has Been Featured in More Than 120 Films

Los Angeles, CA, November 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dawna Lee Heising of Eye on Entertainment interviewed stage, screen, and television star Sally Kirkland at her home in Los Angeles, CA. Kirkland is an actress of enormous talent, and is known as one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood, while still managing to be charming, humble and a very spiritual humanitarian. The daughter of a fashion editor for Vogue and Life magazines and a Mainline Philadelphia metals merchant, Sally began her professional career as a child model for Vogue and other magazines and started acting at age 10. At 17, she was studying acting with Uta Hagen at the Herbert Berghof Studio and from there went to work for many years with Lee Strasberg at the Actor's Studio, first as a student and later as a teacher herself. Kirkland is now a lifetime member of The Actor’s Studio. Her first role was in Andy Warhol's “The 13 Most Beautiful Women” in 1964. Kirkland recently starred in “The Wayshower,” with Eric Roberts, and in “Broken Roads” and “Archaeology of a Woman.” She also starred in the Oscar-nominated short film “African Chelsea,” which features a song she wrote. She will soon be one of the leading characters in the feature film “DYSFUNKTION,” which is written and produced by David Bianchi and produced by Val Tasso. Tasso executive-produced this segment of Eye on Entertainment, along with Heising.

Kirkland is probably best known for her performance in "Anna," for which she garnered the 1987 Motion Picture Academy's Best Actress Nomination. For the same role, she won the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Golden Globe Award for Best Dramatic Actress and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress. Los Angeles Times' critics Kevin Thomas and Sheila Benson named Kirkland's performance in "Anna" as one of the Five Best Acting Performances by a Woman in the '80's.

A few of her other many starring roles include “The Way We Were,” "Cold Feet,” "Revenge,” "JFK," “Best of the Best,” “EdTV” and “Bruce Almighty.” Her film "Cheatin' Hearts" in which she stars and also executive produced, was picked by Robert Redford for the Sundance Film Festival. She considers her role as a mother in the TV movie "The Haunted: A True Story" one of the best of her career.

From 1998 onward, Kirkland became involved in many independent movies on the film festival circuit and has now appeared in over 120 films. She starred with Jeremy Renner and Gabrielle Union in Neo Ned, which has been airing on Cable TV, and she appeared in the popular movie Adam and Steve with Craig Chester and Parker Posey. She starred in “Coffee Date” with Jonathan Silverman.

Kirkland resides in Los Angeles with her beloved dog, Shiva. She is an ordained minister in The Church of Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, and she often works with The Institute for Individual and World Peace (IIWP) in Santa Monica, which sponsors and supports many community service groups, including the Heartfelt Service Project, Habitat for Humanity and the Carl Bean Hospice for AIDS patients. When her friend Rick Sherill got AIDS, Kirkland became his caretaker and became involved with AIDS PROJECT L.A. and Project Angel Food.
