Building Peaceful Families Receives the 2011 Perry/Yonamine Unity Award

San Francisco 49ers Foundation recognizes Bay Area non-profit agency for their ongoing commitment to encouraging, supporting, and empowering the underserved.

San Francisco, CA, November 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Building Peaceful Families (BPF), a Silicon Valley non-profit agency dedicated to enriching the lives of Bay Area children and families, today announced that the San Francisco 49ers Foundation has named BPF a recipient of the 2011 Perry/Yonamine Unity Award. Selected from among many Bay Area non-profit agencies, BPF was chosen to receive this prestigious award in recognition of their long-standing dedication to Bay Area children and families.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized for the work that we have done to enrich the lives of children and families in our community,” commented Sharon Chatman, Founder and Board Chair of Building Peaceful Families. “This grant will help us to continue providing inspirational, educational, empowering programs that specifically target the Bay Area’s underserved populations – grandmothers raising their own grandchildren, fathers and father figures, single parents, parents in the criminal justice system, teenage fathers and mothers, and victims of domestic violence. We know that by making a positive impact on these adults, we will also positively influence the children in their lives.”

Named after former 49ers players Joe Perry and Wally Yonamine, the Perry/Yonamine Unity Award recognizes a local non-profit agency, a current San Francisco 49ers player, and a Bay Area youth football coach that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to promoting unity, respect, and fairness in the community.

“The 49ers Foundation is proud to recognize Building Peaceful Families for their outstanding, transformational work that truly enriches the lives of Bay Area families,” said Joanne Pasternack, Executive Director of Community Relations for the 49ers Foundation.

Building Peaceful Families will receive a $10,000 grant from the 49ers Foundation in a pre-game ceremony on the field at the San Francisco 49ers game on Sunday, November 13, 2011.
