)-- Tata Steel has placed an order for a flatness measurement system from Shapeline, Sweden, to be installed in the production line of its plate mill in Scunthorpe, UK.
The laser based system is capable of measuring 4.8 m wide plates on-line and has an integrated laser doppler sensor for speed and plate length measurements. Installation of the system is planned for the year-end 2011, with start-up early 2012.
The system will be used for quality control as well as to significantly reduce the number of leveling passes to increase the throughput in the production.
