Worded Write Releases First-of-Its-Kind Book of Non-Tradtional Greeting Card Verses

New book acknowledges people outside the mainstream with custom greetings.

Peoria, AZ, November 25, 2011 --(PR.com)-- What do you say in response to a friend’s coming out announcement? Or when someone you care about marries a person of a different race or generation? Or when you’re invited to celebrate a same-sex marriage? Or to newly-found biological relatives? Or to support the lifestyle transition of a transgender relative? Or to be supportive of someone whose religious beliefs differ from yours? Or when a friend or relative is diagnosed with a life-threatening or terminal illness? These aren’t everyday occurrences for most of us, so finding the right words takes some thought.

When a friend surprised Marilyn Haight with a coming-out announcement, Haight wanted to be supportive, but didn’t know what to say at first. She found no “Coming Out” greeting cards in stores, nor did she find suggestions about what to write in blank cards--in stores, or in books. She wondered what other people do for these kind of occasions. That’s when she recognized the need for a book of suggestions about what to say in nontraditional situations.

Having trained in multicultural diversity and facilitated conflict-resolution in multicultural work groups during her career, Haight, now retired, decided to apply her knowledge and experience in another way. Her new book, Greeting Card Verses for Nontraditional Situations & Relationships, offers sentiments for you to paraphrase in blank greeting cards and notes when you want to acknowledge uncommon, exceptional events and people. Haight says these sentiments bridge differences in age; race; personality style; politics; religion; sexual orientation; social context; and more. They acknowledge and address people who are often treated as though they’re on the periphery of society.
