Nashville Tree Expert Says Tennessee Residents Are Yet to Feel the Full Impact of This Summer's Drought

Flavio Martinez, owner of Kaily’s Tree Service says area residents will begin feeling the impact in the next few months, should prepare for more dead trees.

Nashville, TN, December 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Nashville, TN tree specialist Flavio Martinez, owner of Kaily's Tree Service (http://www.kailystreeservice.com) says Tennessee residents are yet to feel the full impact of this summer's drought on the state’s economy.

Nashville area residents should expect more dead trees in the coming year and this could affect Tennessee's economy, according to the tree specialist.

"The worst is ahead of us. More trees will die from the effects of summer's excessive heat. You can already see the browning effects as more trees lose their leaves," Flavio Martinez said this week.

"You look around and all you see are withered and dying or dead trees. Some of these trees appear to have come through the drought but in the coming year, we will see more trees die. We will see the full effects in the coming months. They are not usually visible immediately," he said.

Tree species mostly affected by drought include white pine trees.

"We are concerned about this. We are concerned that residents may lose a lot more of these pine and hardwood trees because they are the ones affected the most. That will be catastrophic and devastating to the state's economy if that happens.

"If your pine trees are brown now, they are either dying or dead already. There is no need to leave them on your property if you suspect they are dead. Property owners need to start making plans to get those trees removed because they are not going to come back,” said Martinez.

"For the hardwood trees there is a 50 percent chance that they will come back next spring. Homeowners need to keep a watchful eye on those too."

Martinez said there could be a glut of timber next year due to the number of dead or dying trees and homeowners may need to decide the best means to remove dead trees from their properties.

"You do not want to leave the trees on your property especially if it is near a home or your cars. That is very dangerous. The trees can fall and hurt family members or even pets. It is important that the trees are dealt with and possibly removed as soon as they die.

“Dead trees are magnets for diseases and pest, which could infect other nearby trees. Failing to remove dead trees from your property is asking for trouble. Other trees on the property or even nearby properties could become infected really quickly."
