Girl Scouts Launch Centennial with Star-Studded Kickoff Luncheon

Venus Williams headlines "Real Girls Real Women" awards show orchestrated by Corporate Magic.

Dallas, TX, December 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- With the 100th anniversary of the Girls Scouts of the USA just around the corner, the Northeast Texas chapter decided to kick the "Year of the Girl" off in style. To assist in honoring several extraordinary individuals at its annual Real Girls Real Women Awards Luncheon, the organization brought in international tennis champion Venus Williams to provide her inspiring words to the nearly 1,000 people in attendance.

Recognizing the unique opportunity presented by its Centennial observance, the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas asked the messaging architects at Corporate Magic to take the event to the next level, cementing an indelible impression in the audience’s mind that the organization is vibrant, relevant and well-positioned for its next century of service to the girls and young women of America.

"This was, without a doubt, the best luncheon we have ever had," said Colleen Walker, Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. "The team from Corporate Magic truly raised the bar and created an experience that none of us will ever forget. Most importantly, they played a major role in showcasing Girl Scouts to the community, helping propel us forward into our second century of Girl Scouting."

The annual Real Girls Real Women Awards Luncheon, held November 18 at the Hilton Anatole Dallas, was emceed by FOX4 anchor Clarice Tinsley and featured captivating presentations by U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and keynote speaker Venus Williams.

Dallas-based Corporate Magic was enlisted to craft the messaging elements around the event and to design, stage and manage the show’s flow. The company even designed the distinctive centerpieces made up of cookie boxes for each table. Corporate Magic donated its services, including all labor required for the event. Alford Media Services likewise graciously donated the audio/visual equipment for the luncheon.

"We were tasked with leaving a lasting impression of the Girl Scouts as one of the most important institutions in the country, particularly with regard to developing the female leaders of our future," said Meg Lohr, International Account Manager for Corporate Magic. "Venus lent her star power to the festivities, but we made certain that the real stars of the show were the ‘real girls’ and ‘real women’ that were being recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community here in North Texas."

Among other highlights of the luncheon was the announcement of a Girl Scouts Centennial Exhibition at the 2012 State Fair of Texas. The high-tech, high-touch experience will feature both historic and contemporary reflections of Girl Scouting that celebrate the organization’s first 100 years and serve as a springboard for its next century of service. The exhibit will be housed in the Hall of States at the Texas State Fairgrounds. AT&T is the presenting sponsor of the exhibition, as well as the entire year of activities and events planned by the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas (GSNETX). Nationally, AT&T announced a corporate grant, with an employee matching component, for a national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education program that could generate up to $2 million.

The annual Real Girls Real Women Dallas Awards Luncheon, held each Fall to recognize outstanding women leaders and Girl Scouts for their service to the community, is fast becoming one of Dallas' premiere daytime events. Funds raised during the luncheon provide the "Gift of Girl Scouting" and support the activities of more than 35,000 girls in traditional Girl Scout troops throughout Northeast Texas.
