OICW Culinary Arts Instructor Adam Weiner Shares His Expertise with the US Navy

Menlo Park, CA, May 03, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The United States Navy has asked Chef Adam Weiner, instructor at OICW’s Culinary Arts Program at MiMe’s Café, to help train eleven Culinary Specialists at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Panama City, in Panama City Beach, Florida. Chef Weiner will ship out on May 6, 2007 for his one-week “tour of duty”.

Since 2003, Chef Weiner has been the Culinary Arts Instructor and Chef of MiMe’s Café in Redwood City, owned by OICW (Opportunities Industrialization Center-West), a nonprofit organization providing job training and career development services primarily for low-income adults and at-risk youth throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. “It is a great honor to be able to share my knowledge with the Culinary Specialists serving our country,” said Chef Weiner. “Although I will be focusing on knife skills and measurements, I will look for opportunities to teach about careers, motivation and cooking with passion. The first two questions I am going to ask the specialists are, 'Do you realize the meal you make could be someone’s last?' 'Will you have pride in that meal?’”

For one week, May 6 – 12, 2007, Chef Weiner will be teaching eleven Culinary Specialists at NSA Panama City, a facility which turns out approximately 1,000 meals a day. “We’re very proud that Chef Adam has been chosen to share his skills and knowledge with the U.S. Navy,” said Sharon Williams, executive director of OICW. “I know his students at NSA Panama City will enjoy his teaching style as much as his OICW students.”

About Chef Adam Weiner
Chef Adam Weiner is the Culinary Arts Instructor and Chef at OICW’s Culinary Arts Program at MiMe’s Café in Redwood City, CA. He teaches a 12-week introduction to professional cooking program to people of all ages and walks of life. The unusual aspect of the program is that from day one, the students run a full service open to the public restaurant, MiMe’s Café, located in Redwood City. “The students learn from the first moment they arrive what it takes to succeed in the culinary world by having to prepare, cook, and clean up MiMe’s kitchen,” says Chef Adam. The program’s graduates have gone on to work at Stanford University, Stanford, and Bon Appetit, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Hyatt Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels, Perry’s at SFO, Acrobat Staffing, as well as corporate kitchens and restaurants in and out of California. Chef Weiner entered the field of professional cooking in 1994, after a career as an attorney in the banking industry. He is a member of the American Culinary Federation, and will be serving on the Board of Directors of the Chef’s Association of the Pacific Coast. He also writes monthly articles for The Culinarian, a magazine by chefs for chefs.
