DynCorp International Employees Buckle Their Blue Jeans for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

During the week of October 17-21, DynCorp International employees recognized Breast Cancer Awareness month with “Blue Jeans for Breast Cancer,” donating $5 to wear jeans for a day or $20 for the week.

Washington, DC, December 21, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The money collected by DynCorp International offices in Ft. Worth, Texas and Falls Church, Va., directly benefited the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Donations help fund breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs.

Several DynCorp International Team Members working in the Patrick Support Division (PSD) at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla. also took part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities and joined an estimated 8,000 supporters in the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

Earlier this year, DynCorp International employees participated in another breast cancer-related fundraiser, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Employees from Falls Church, Va. and Fort Worth, Texas raised a total of $13,140 for breast cancer research. DynCorp International employees have participated and contributed each year at Race for the Cure events in Texas, Washington, D.C., and several other locations, including overseas.

About the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation was founded in 1982 by Nancy G. Brinker, Susan G. Komen’s sister. Brinker was inspired by her sister, who throughout her battle with breast cancer, spent her time thinking of ways to make life better for other women in similar situations.

Today, the Komen foundation is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® and the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®, and generous contributions from partners, sponsors and supporters have contributed to the foundation’s success.

About the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
Since 1993, nearly five million walkers across the country have raised more than $340 million through Making Strides events to help funding groundbreaking discoveries into cancer’s causes and cures.

American Cancer Society donations to this cause have helped fund major breast cancer research breakthroughs, including:

-Research into breast-conserving surgery
-Establishing mammography as the gold standard to detect breast cancer early
-Discovering lifesaving treatments (such as Herceptin) to improve breast cancer survival and drugs (such as Tamoxifen) to reduce the risk of breast cancer relapse
-Discovering genes for inherited breast cancer
-Knowledge that genetics, diet, lack of exercise, and alcohol abuse can increase a person’s cancer risk
-Discovering cancer-causing oncogenes and tumor-suppressor genes
